Trouble in Paradise is the second studio album by English singer Elly Jackson, known professionally as La Roux. It was released on 18 July 2014 by Polydor Records. La Roux originally consisted of Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid, who collaborated during the earlier stages of production. However, Jackson was left to complete the record in early 2014 after Langmaid departed from the group in early 2012. Consequently, she partnered with producer Ian Sherwin during the later stages of production.
Elly Jackson goes it alone, and the result is an instant pop classic. This album should have been messier than a fortnight in Magaluf. When La Roux released their self-titled debut in 2009, they were a male-female duo trading in chilly ’80s synth-pop; now La Roux is a solo project (singer Elly Jackson remains, t Ben Langmaid co-wrote six of these nine tracks, but then got La Sack) and their sound has been given a warm and funky makeover.
Almost sickeningly overburdened with fantastic tunes, Trouble in Paradise may well be not just a triumph against the odds, but the best pop album we'll hear this year. Listening to it, it's hard not to feel that whatever agonies went into its creation were worth it.
Release is issued with a voucher to download a digital copy of the album from ww. aroux. uk/vinyl with mp3 and FLAC options. Track 6 contains a sample of the recording "My Jamaican Guy" as performed by Grace Jones. Trouble in Paradise is a 1932 American Pre-Code romantic comedy film directed by Ernst Lubitsch, starring Miriam Hopkins, Kay Francis, and Herbert Marshall and featuring Charles Ruggles and Edward Everett Horton. Based on the 1931 play The Honest Finder (A Becsületes Megtaláló) by Hungarian playwright László Aladár, the film is about a gentleman thief and a lady pickpocket who join forces to con a beautiful woman who is the owner of a perfume company.
Trouble in Paradise, with the album cover alone, sets the tone for the musical aesthetic of the album, which was in the true La Roux style; ’80s Electronic Pop, with the strong chromatic colors to go along with it. Developed during the early stages back in 2012, La Roux decided to go for a more toned down Synthpop version of her 2009 self-titled debut. Otherwise known as Elly Jackson, La Roux has been hiding around the club scene playing smaller shows, and some even bigger ones such as Electric Daisy Carnival back in 2013, among other larger festivals
