Steven Siro Vai (/vaɪ/; born June 6, 1960) is an American guitarist, composer, singer, songwriter, and producer. A three-time Grammy Award winner and fifteen-time nominee, Vai started his music career in 1978 at the age of eighteen as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, and played in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1983. He embarked on a solo career in 1983 and has released eight solo albums to date.
Virgil was born in Melbourne, Australia, where he also launched his career. Since the mid-nineties he has been a household name. Residing in Los Angeles, Virgil is travelling the world as a international drumming superstar, as well as a composer and an educator . Virgil has published several educational videos and books. Strangely, this latest Steve Vai album is nothing of the sort. Perhaps more tellingly, one album was made in his early twenties, the next as he was approaching thirty. This is an amalgam of both and flits between hard pop with a twist in a song like Mighty Messengers, and the skewed exclamation of a song like Bop!, which sounds, incredibly, like Zappa meets Japanese electro.
Virgil Donati (born 22 October 1958) is an Australian drummer, frequent drum clinician and a producer. He is currently playing with Planet X, Allan Holdsworth, and his own band among other projects. Virgil is perhaps most well known for his fast, highly technical drumming skills. He holds the drum sticks in the traditional style and is also proficient at the keyboard.
