Sir Simon Denis Rattle OM CBE (born 19 January 1955) is a British conductor. He rose to international prominence during the 1980s and 1990s, while Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (1980–98). Rattle was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018. It was announced in March 2015 that Rattle would become Music Director of the London Symphony Orchestra from September 2017.

Sir Simon Rattle, born in Liverpool in 1955, assumed the post of chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker and artistic. Simon Rattle was born in Liverpool and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London before becoming principal conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 1980. He has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2002 and has just announced he is joining the London Symphony Orchestra as Music Director in 2017. Sir Simon also forms one half of one of classical music's power-couples – his wife is star mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená. There will be much Mahler.
